Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe


Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 8 ounces whole wheat spaghetti
  • 1 jar marinara sauce, no sugar added
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped carrots
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dry oregano
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Prepare and drain spaghetti according to package directions.
Meanwhile, pour olive oil in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add onions, carrots, celery, and salt. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, until onions have softened.
Add garlic, ground meat, oregano, and pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, until the meat is browned and cooked through. Add the marinara sauce, stir, and bring to a simmer.
Add cooked spaghetti to meat sauce and toss to coat.
Sprinkle with parmesan cheese, if desired.
