“ Now I feel so powerful and so me. I have more energy and I’m able to get more out of life. ”
Landing a job as an events coordinator for a professional ballet
company was the jumpstart Heather needed to get back to a healthy
weight.
In Heather’s words:
I got started with Weight Watchers because I was about to start
working as an events coordinator for a ballet company in New York. I
refused to be surrounded by all of these fit women and men without being
the best I could be, both physically and mentally. I’d also seen how
overweight I was in pictures from my sister’s wedding. I just wasn’t the
Heather that I wanted to be. My mom and sister had both lost a lot of
weight with Weight Watchers and looked incredible. I wanted to be a part
of that. I was approaching the big 3-0 and realized I wanted to live a
long, healthy life. I took control of my own destiny by going to my
first Weight Watchers meeting.
Why Weight Watchers?
Weight Watchers is a program that sets you up for success and teaches
you how to lead a lifestyle of health and happiness. As an event
planner, the tracking and the organization of it all just made sense to
me. It was easy to follow and it was fun!
I’m Italian and Swiss so I love comfort foods like pasta and
bread…and lots of it! That’s what I was raised on. But I was excited
that I didn’t have to eliminate them entirely, I just had to learn
portion control. I learned to really enjoy them on special occasions and
different holidays we celebrate and things like that. To be honest, it
makes them that much more enjoyable because it becomes less about
emotional eating and more about nutrition and enjoying food with my
family.
Making changes
I made a lot of changes to my diet. Instead of having a bag of potato
chips I might have some fresh vegetables which would still have that
crunch I was looking for, but it was more filling and healthier. I also
had to be very careful with my sweet tooth. I love cookies and cupcakes
so I ate a lot of the Weight Watchers desserts and became much more
adventurous with fruit. I was trying things I’d never eaten before—and
enjoying them! My diet is much more diverse now.
Meetings matter
The meetings keep me on track and motivated because I have this
incredible Leader. She’ll say, “Tell me what your problem is. We’re
going to work it out. We’ll do it together.” Weight Watchers provides
this community for me and this sense of unity. We’re all in it together.
You can just hash things out that are troublesome or celebrate things
that are happening in your life. I love the meetings and wouldn’t have
been able to do what I did without them.
Using eTools
The eTools really helped me stay on track. The PointsPlus Tracker
was obviously important, but I also like using the Healthy Checks to be
able to track my fruits, protein, and dairy. There are so many
features, especially in the Community, where you can exchange questions.
It really invites you to go outside of yourself and realize that you’re
not alone. Other people can help you and have been where you are.
Reading the success stories was also really motivating for me. I always
thought one day I’d love to tell my story like that. And I’m so happy to
be here now.
Fitting in fitness
My fitness routine changed a lot. Previously, I was doing absolutely
nothing and now I’m running, taking spin classes, and dancing. I’m a
bonafide yogi—so much so that I really want to teach someday. I’ve
fallen in love with being fit and feeling great about my body and I know
that hopefully with the change in my lifestyle I’ll be able to live a
longer life.
The new Heather
So much is different now that I’m lighter. I’m down to a size 8 from a
12-14 and I’m more confident. I feel sexier and more focused. I have
more energy and I’m really able to get more out of life. A lot of
wonderful things have come into my life since I’ve lost the weight, so
it’s been great to see that ripple effect. I feel so powerful and so me.
And that’s what I was missing in the photos from my sister’s wedding. I
really feel like I have re-found myself and I’m excited to see what’s
next.
